Eluru: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will distribute benefits worth Rs 150 crore to the needy to mark the launching of SC/ST Sub-Plan in West Godavari district on Friday. Beneficiaries belonging to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes will get loans and implements at a function to be held at Jangareddigudem.

Before leaving for Khammam as part of his two-district tour, the Chief Minister will join the socially backward people for a community lunch at Jangareddigudem.A Kiran Reddy will interact with SC families at Vegavaram. He will inaugurate solar streetlights and solar domestic lamps at Indira SC Colony. He will participate in Babu Jagjivan Ram's Jayanti celebrations to coincide with the launching of the Sub-Plan.

He will meet officials and non-officials on his arrival in a chopper at Guravayigudem of Jangareddigudem mandal at 10:40 am. He will arrive at Gannavaram airport near Vijayawada in the morning.A The SC/ST Sub-Plan, aimed at delivery of benefits earmarked for them, is the State government's popular programme for whose launch the West Godavari district machinery has made elaborate arrangements.

Kalajata to popularise the scheme: The Social Welfare Department has come up with a special plan with 10-day-long cultural programme (Kalajata) on a massive scale across the State to create awareness among the SCs and STs on the welfare schemes offered under the Sub-Plan.

Department Principal Secretary Raymond Peter said the Chief Minister will inaugurate Kalajata at Jangareddygudem on Friday. Mr. Peter convened a video-conference from Hyderabad on Wednesday to brief the District Collectors, Joint Collectors, Social Welfare Officers and District Public Relations Officers (DPROs) in the State about the Sub-Plan.

Specially trained teams of folk artistes will carry out the campaign. The campaign will commence on Jagjivan Ram's birth anniversary (April 5) and lasts till Dr Ambedkar's birth anniversary day (April 14).

Teams of folk artistes will present special programmes explaining various welfare schemes being implemented by the State government for the welfare of SCs and STs with special emphasis on SC/ST Sub-Plan.

Cultural programmes and plays (Kalajata) will be staged in all the Assembly constituencies. A As many as 24 teams have been trained to carry out the campaign, one team for each district.A Mr. Peter informed that after April 15, many more teams would be given a week-long training for another phase of extensive campaign on the Sub-Plan.
