Hyderabad: Comeback man Tanmay Agarwal has hit peak form, albeit a too late in the day. His rollicking 105 went for a losing cause when Hyderabad was shown the door by the formidable Tamil Nadu by three wickets in the Group ‘A’ Vijay Hazare Trophy at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium here on Thursday. Put into bat by Tamil Nadu, the host was restricted to 230 runs despite Tanmay’s knock that came from 96 balls and included 11 fours and a six.
Tamil Nadu chased down the target and took a step nearer to the knockout stage in 47.5 overs losing seven wickets in the process. Openers Dinesh Karthik (26) and Abhinav Mukund (27) gave a good start when they put on 50 runs in 33 balls. Debutant Md Siraj had a dream debut when sent both to give the much needed respite to the host.
Team India opener Murli Vijay (44) took on the responsibility and added 39 runs for the third wicket with Vijay Shankar (23). Although, Hyderabad bowlers struck at regular intervals they could not contain the run-flow. Earlier, Hyderabad batting revolved around Tanmay. He and B Sandeep added 63 runs for the fourth wicket and 55 runs for the ninth wicket with Ravi Kiran (17).
