Hyderabad: The Multi Class Sailing Championship-2017 had a rollicking start at the Sailing Annexe beside Hussainsagar Lake here on Monday.

Declaring the premier championship open Governor ESL Narasimhan set the ball rolling for an action-packed seven days when the country’s best sailors battle it out for eventual honours.

Held as part of Hyderabad Sailing Week, the event will feature competitions for Late Lieutenant Commander Kelly S Rao Trophy, Rolling Trophy by Secunderabad Club, YAI Katari Bowl and several individual awards that are all up for grabs.
Narasimhan said that the State Government has been in forefront of sports promotion, including water sports.

He said Hussainsagar Lake has become a nursery for champion sailors, thanks to the enthusiastic efforts of Laser Class Association of India (LCAI), Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) and EME Sailing Association (EMESA), which was formed in 1964.

Lieutenant General KK Aggarwal, Commodore EME Sailing Association, said that it was a matter of delight that sailing was getting bigger and bigger with each passing year.

Major General Paramjit Singh, Vice Commodore, EMESA, said that it has been fruitful 32 years voyage for them.
