Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call ahead of the FIFA Under-17 world Cup that is being hosted by India is sending the right signals across the nation.

What has been drawing appreciation and evoking an overwhelming response has been the ‘Mission XI Million’ initiative that is aimed at bringing about long-term development of the sport in India.

It was a similar enthusiasm that was on show here when passionate footballers organised a one-of-a-kind Mission XI Million seminar at Lal Bahadur Indoor Stadium.

The response was of a very high order, particularly from Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Vikarabad and Medchal districts.

In full attendance were principals, PETs, administrators and coaches. What was unique about the affair was that hundreds of balls were given away on the occasion.

Those coming from the interiors were exhorted to promote the sport so that youngsters would get attracted to it, particularly prior to ensuing Under-17 World Cup extravaganza,

The seminar was inaugurated by A Venkateshwar Reddy, Chairman of Sports Authority of Telangana State. He assured all support for the sport.

Meanwhile, according to ES Shyam and Prakash Gopal, the coordinators for the remarkable show, they have firmed up plans to conduct inter-school tournaments for boys and girls from government schools. Further to this, qualified coaches will be based in important cities and towns and conduct camps. They will hone skills of those with potential so that formidable age-group Telangana State squads could be knit together.

Praise came from eminent personalities like badminton Dronacharya SM Arif, SATS Vice-Chairman A Dinakar Babu, international spiker Anjenalu and senior officials of Telangana Football Association (TFA) Dr Mohd Ali Rafath and GP Palguna.

Speakers recalled the days when Hyderabad produced almost the entire national team, including those that participated in Olympics. The organizers reiterated that they aspired to recreate those glory days with their efforts and governmental support.
