Birmingham: Captain Virat Kohli led from the front with a splendid century to lead India's superb fightback on Day 2 of the first Test against England at Edgbaston Cricket Ground here on Thursday.

He stroked a magnificent 149, hitting 22 fours and a six in his 225-ball knock, to single-handedly guide India to 274 in their first innings in reply to England's 287.

However, except for him, no other Indian batsman could even cross the 30-run mark.

India were reeling on 100 for five at one stage before Kohli took charge and guided his team out of trouble as they ended conceding only a slender lead of 13 runs.

This was Kohli's first century in England and his 22nd overall and his 15th as the captain.Young left-arm pacer Sam Curran stole the show for England claiming four for 74, while James Anderson, Adil Rashid and Ben Stokes picked up two wickets each.
