I am a good observer: Deven Bhojani

He started acting at a young age of 18 and became popular with his character of Karima in ‘Dekh Bhai Dekh’ and ‘Petha in Tara’. Deven got more recognition from his first big role in Vipul Shah’s ‘Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka’ in which he was directed by Vipul Shah, now a known film maker. And now Vipul Shah as a producer has decided to rope in Deven Bhojani as the director for his next film.

Talking about the same Deven says, “Yes, me and Vipul go a long way back and have been friends since college days. We have worked together for television and now I will soon be directing a film for his banner. It is a rom-com and a full-fledged commercial film but much about that later, as currently I am busy with my latest show on Zee TV – ‘Bh Se Bhade’.”

Now after Gattu in ‘Baa, Bahu Aur Baby’ and as a house husband in ‘Mrs. Tendulkar’, Deven is back to tickle the funny bone with a weekend comedy show which promises one hour of full entertainment for the family. Says Deven, ‘Bh Se Bhade’ is based on a character made popular by noted Marathi writer VP Kale. ‘Bhade’ is a family man who stays with his wife and grown up kids and his crippled mother-in-law. A typical middle class family, ‘Bhade’ has superpowers to take up the troubles of others on himself and what happens when he does that is the funny part.”

This is the first time that Deven will be seen as a 50-year-old on screen and that too one with superpowers. He had to prepare for the role and get into the character. “I am a good observer and I observe people all the time so for this role too, I tried to pick up mannerisms from watching people in that age category. Also as a team which included our producers and the creative team we all had lots of brain storming sessions to decide how will ‘Bhade’ walk, talk and behave.”

Deven who has a theatre background, along with his producers JD Majethia & Aatish Kapadia, took part in workshops too for the show. It also helped that his co-stars in the show Sucheta Trivedi who plays his wife and the veteran actress Sarita Joshi who plays his mother-in-law have been part of his earlier shows. “Frankly, for all of us, Hats Off Productions is like a second home and we all actors love to be together as part of their shows. The bonding also helps when we have to perform scenes together and it is fast and easy to work with people you are friend with off screen too.”

The show which is couple of episodes old has garnered a good response and we are sure that the audience who have loved Deven as Gattu will like watching him again as ‘Bhade’ too!
