It was all hands on deck for Apple Inc. on Thursday evening, aspirants and enthusiasts equally gathered at the launch event of probably, the most hyped, controversial and talked about phone of the year. India finally opened its doors to the latest product from Apple, the iPhone 6 on Friday midnight. TRS MP K Kavitha did the formal unveiling of iPhone 6 for Hyderabad, ceremoniously at Taj Vivanta. “We are an iPhone family, my father has it, brother has it, in fact the whole family has the same phone,” said the TRS leader and daughter of CMK Chandrasekhar Rao. “I can’t even imagine my life without an iPhone,” she added.
Kavitha was escorted by Sikandar, CEO of Technovision and Varun, the concept head of International Gadget Rush. Not so far away, Bajaj Electronics also unveiled the iPhone6 at the same time. Miss Hyderabad-Gujarati Krupali launched the iPhone6 in presence of Karan Bajaj, director, Bajaj Electronics, at its store in Punjagutta.
Those who had pre-ordered the smartphone earlier this month got their hands on it at the midnight event. The device will now be available for purchase across all Apple Premium Resellers, multi-brand retail stores in the city and at online retail stores as well.
Amazon India is already said to have shipped the first batch of smartphones to buyers who have pre-ordered the phone.
Apple was geared up for the launch with recent reports indicating that it had shipped around 55,000 units to India ahead of the launch. Pre-orders for the new iPhones have crossed 21,000, so Apple has been ensuring that there are enough units in stock to last the expected weekend rush.
To recap on the pricing, the iPhone 6 16GB variant is priced at Rs 53,500, which is the same price tag at which the iPhone 5S was launched last year. The 64GB variant is priced at 62,500, and the 128GB variant is priced at Rs 71,500. The prices for the bigger iPhone 6 Plus start at Rs 62,500 for the 16GB variant. The 64GB variant is priced at Rs 71,500, while the 128GB variant is priced at 80,500.
