Gone are the days when people welcomed the New Year by exchanging greeting cards. With the advent of technology in the past decade, the habit is dying a slow death. E-greetings are the new fad. People, especially youngsters, prefer to send an e-greeting card rather than giving a traditional greeting card.
With social networking becoming a part and parcel of youngsters, wishing someone is just a click away. “I prefer to send an e-greeting as it is cost effective and I can send the same to many people at one go. With so many websites to choose from, one is spoilt for options,” says a student G Alok.
“Many people these days prefer to send an e-greeting than the traditional one. I guess there is nothing bad in sending an e-card as long as the feeling is the same. We should change according to time. I think in the near future people will send only e-greetings,” feels another student P Sunitha.
But not everyone is going the e-way. There are still a set of conservatives who prefer the custom of handing out greeting cards. “I make it a point to buy greeting cards for special occasions. Sending an e-greeting is also ok, but delivering a greeting card personally gives a warm feeling. I already bought a few greeting cards for my close ones,” says V Anuradha, a corporate employee.
“In the past decade there has been a steep decline in the use of greeting cards. Earlier people would throng our shop a day or two before and select cards. However, this year there have been only a few takers. The demand for handmade greeting cards is more than cards sold by corporate companies,” says B Mahesh, a gift shop owner.
