Body worn cameras for Hyderabad traffic cops

In its efforts to showcase Hyderabad as the future global city, Telengana government plans to introduce ‘Body-Worn Cameras’ to sync with technological advancement for its Hyderabad Traffic Police (HTP)

We have deployed four such wearable video cameras on an experimental basis and will introduce 100 such units of GPRS-enabled body-wear cameras costing Rs.1.5 lakhs each by March-end,” says Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Jitender

The high-resolution audio-visuals would be recorded in the camera and stored in a memory card which could be be seen live from a police control room through 4G technology. .“This would facilitate socially desirable behavior and bring measurable benefits to relation between the police and civilians,” he said.

Meanwhile, payment for a record number of 10,000 pending challans for traffic violations was made on Monday as part of the ‘Cashless Enforcement in Traffic Management’ and fine to the tune of Rs. 19 lakh was collected, the senior officer said.

The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs. 21 crore for the modernization of HTP, for setting up an ‘Automatic Integrated Traffic Management Syste which will focus on stop-line violation, red-signal jumping, wrong-side movement and detect over-speeding and issue e-challan to violators en masse and book the offenders .

Hyderabad police also has plans for setting up latest state of art signage boards and deploy interceptor vehicles with 360-degree-vision cameras to detect violations .
