Here we take a look at 10 such organizations and their innovations which are positively impacting the communities they serve.
Humana People to People India(HPPI): HPPI has developed digitech, which is an innovative courseware framework designed for training of primary school teachers. Courseware covers subjects, child centric teaching methodologies, societal awareness, and leadership skills. It is currently operational in two locations in Haryana, and has impacted over 4,400 teachers and 25,000 students till date. They plan to scale to 27 new districts across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Sukhibava Healthcare Solutions: It trains local-micro entrepreneurs living in slums, to use their cloud based mobile technology to educate underserved women on menstrual hygiene. The organization has currently implemented the solution in Bangalore and is expected to impact over 2,800 persons by the end of 2016.
Educate Girls: The organization has developed a mobile application, with two main components. First is a feature that allows the organization to monitor the activities and location of their field staff. The second component allows managers visibility into school level improvement. The organization is operational in 7 districts in Rajasthan and has impacted over 580 field staff and 1 Lakh children.
Zeroinfy: Zeroinfy.com, started in January 2015, is a Kolkata-based interactive education platform where students can buy video lectures made by teachers. It also provides peer-to-peer learning opportunities and encourages students to share their personal notes with other students, from smaller towns of West Bengal, via their platform. It offers courses like CA, CS, CFA, UPSC and IIT-JEE.
Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled: The organization provides vocational training to disabled youth across the sectors of the IT/BPO/banking/hospitality and many others. Training is provided through seven livelihood resource centers that are equipped with computers, IT equipment, and accessible software programs. It has provided training and has successfully placed over 7000 disabled candidates and has 7 training centers across Karnataka and Jharkhand.
Surya Power Magic: The Coimbatore-based cleantech startup, Surya PowerMagic delivers solar irrigation solutions to farmers in power deficit regions. Their Solar Irrigation Solutions are easy to use, durable and they offer convenient financing arrangements in specific geographies.
Innovation: It has developed the first low cost electronic refreshable Braille reader, which helps in reading and writing through electronic Braille. The device will have a pivotal role in shaping the sectors of both education and employment for the visually impaired.
CropIn Technology Solutions: A farming technology solutions startup, which provides agri businesses the technology and expertise to create a smarter and safer food supply for consumers. CropIn offers information on a cloud-based platform, integrated with a mobile app for Android. Called Smart Farms, it allows large food companies to track the growth of crops on farms around the country. It also aids farmers in adopting global agricultural practices and improves productivity by offering insights and harvest forecasts.
Sohum Innovation Labs: It has developed a low cost hardware cum software solution that uses brainstem auditory evoked response to screen and diagnose infants with hearing impairments at an early stage. It is targeting infants in resource poor settings with the aim of screening 1 million infants by 2018 and diagnosing over 45,500 infants with hearing impairment, and getting them the care they need.
Haqdarshak: Haqdarshak is a mobile/tablet based application, which consists of a complete database of relevant government schemes available to citizens. Till date it has mapped across Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra, and has the potential to reach over 276 million Indians.
