Lenovo is under the impression that creating virtual reality content is something your business may need to be doing in the near future. The new, $1,849 ThinkPad P71 workstation is built to be VR ready, and is certified for content creation for the Oculus, HTC and Nvidia VR platforms.

The ThinkPad P71 is loaded with an Intel Xeon E3-V6 processor and an Nvidia Quadro 5000 GPU, cooled by two fans. It comes with 64GB of RAM and can store up to 1TB of data via SSD. It is not lightweight either, weighing a hefty 7.6 pounds. The frame offers space for up to four USB 3.0 ports, dual Intel Thunderbolt 3 ports, a docking connector and a smartcard reader. It's also certified to withstand military-grade abuse.

The 4K UHD, 17-inch display can also be switched to an FHD touch screen. Either way, you can run Windows 10, Ubuntu Linux or Red Hat Linux out of the box. It will be available starting in April. The company claims the P71 will enable professionals in VR across engineering, manufacturing, architecture and media.

This is not the only cutting edge technology Lenovo is embracing. In January, the laptop maker announced it would be getting into the augmented reality market as well. The Glass C200 smart glasses are set to start mass production in June.

Lenovo also recently unveiled two new 15-inch ThinkPads, including P51s and the P51. The $1,049 P51s is a pretty lightweight workstation (4.3 pounds). It features a brand new Intel Core i7 CPU with Nvidia Quadro M520M GPU with 32GB of RAM and up to a 1TB SSD. It will be available starting in March.

The $1,399 P51 hopes to attract engineers with its Intel Xeon E3-V6 CPU and two Quadro M2200M GPU with 64GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. It two can be had in Windows 10 or two flavors of Linux. It will hit shelves in April.
