Technology has become an important part of our life, without which we can’t imagine ourselves. It has made our lives more convenient and simple. We are getting more and more dependent and addicted to it. We sometimes feel that technology is dominating our lives, but in a way, it has simplified our life. Technology has already intruded in various fields of human life, from the time we are born to the time we rest in peace; we come across so many medical equipment and application that made us healthier, safer and more aware about our health conditions. There is a continuous innovation in technology.

One example of innovation is a smartwatch. A normal watch can just show us the time and date of a particular day. As the name suggests, a smartwatch can do many things smartly. It can track your sleep pattern; it can keep an account of the number of steps you took in a day, your heart rate, pulse rate and many more. Even if you are not a fitness freak, using this type of fitness watch will make you one. One such smartwatch is Huami’s Amazfit Pace. This GPS run watch will cost Rs 9,999. It comes with a collection of many features which will surely make you a fitness conscious person and make you healthy if you follow it seriously. Let’s get into the other details of this smartwatch.

Design

The best part is it has been designed for phone-free running. Wearing it on your wrist, round the clock you can keep a track your every day physical activity. It has a circular dial with rubber strap and sensors at the back. It is scratch-resistant. The back it has got 4 points that fit onto the dial-shaped charging socket and a USB charging cable too.

It weighs around 54.5 g (1.9 oz) and has a 1.2GHz core processor. It comes with a RAM of 512MB and a 4GB internal storage. The connectivity options are USB, Bluetooth 4.0 / BLE and Wi-Fi. It has got an IP67 water-resistant body which is also dust-resistant. Other features are an optical (PPG) heart-rate sensor, inbuilt GPS, GLONASS and many more.

Display

The watch has an LCD touchscreen display that lights up faintly whenever the smartwatch is shifted from a stationary position like after you pick it up from your table or bed or turn your wrists to check the time. It is an always-on display and that doesn’t mean that it stays backlit all the time. The 1.34'' / 320x300 pixel display shows the current time in the middle in bold, the numbers shown in a combination of white and red colours. On the left of the current time is the current date and day while on the right you can see AM or PM with the seconds ticking away. Above the displayed time, you can see the total distance covered and the latest activity session that you’ve finished like a run or a walk etc. Below the current time is shown the total number of steps that you took during the day and the top-most of the screen shows the battery level of the smartwatch.

On the top right side of the dial is a power button that can be used to switch the watch on/off or to wake it up.

During daytime, while outdoors, we found the display to be a little lacking in brightness. Though it was easy to see the time in the dark or low-light settings (and pretty helpful), it becomes a little difficult in bright daylight to decipher the other information on the dial apart from the current time and you have to really peer at the dial to see.

Performance

So, you might be excited to know about the other functions of the smartwatch apart from showing the time. When you swipe left, you will find a set of activities like walking, running, soccer, trail run, etc. Other than these exercises and sporting activities, it has also got a daily overview, music, compass, alarm, weather forecast, heart rate, sleep, stopwatch and timer.

The heart-rate alert can be set accordingly. When you are in the mid of the activity and your heart-rate crosses the mark, the watch will alert you with vibration. It will alert you to stand and move around if you’ve been inactive for a long time. It shows the number of kilometres covered while walking, running.

The screen also displays battery level in GPS mode. When you tap on a specific you will land on another screen that will illustrate GPS searching and when you select ‘Go’ option, the smartwatch starts tracking that specific activity.

Amazfit Pace takes around 2 and a half hours to charge. The capacity of the battery is 4 days along with half-an-hour of workout sessions per day. With nonstop GPS and heart-rate tracking, it will last for more than a day after a single charge. The music storage helps you to listen to music with Bluetooth earbuds and wireless too. The smartwatch comes with a 1-year warranty.
