Medak MLA Padma Devender Reddy was unanimously elected as Deputy Speaker of Telangana Assembly here on Thursday. Congratulating her, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao thanked opposition parties for ensuring unanimous election of Padma Devender Reddy.
Hyderabad: Medak MLA Padma Devender Reddy was unanimously elected as Deputy Speaker of Telangana Assembly here on Thursday. Congratulating her, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao thanked opposition parties for ensuring unanimous election of Padma Devender Reddy. “Padma is like my daughter. I am very proud of her for attaining such a height at a young age,” he said.
Senior Congress leader J Geetha Reddy observed that Padma Devender Reddy’s name would be etched in record books as the first women Deputy Speaker of Telangana State. She hoped that the new Deputy Speaker would give more opportunities to the remaining eight women members to raise their voice on different subjects in the House.
D K Aruna, Redya Naik (Congress), T Harish Rao, Etela Rajender (TRS), Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Dr K Laxman (BJP) among others congratulated the new Deputy Speaker on this occasion. Padma, who completed LLB from Osmania University, practiced Law for three years. She joined the TRS in 2001 and got elected as Ramayampet ZPTC in local body elections held in the same year. She was elected from Ramayampet Assembly segment in 2004 elections. This time, she contested from Medak and defeated Congress candidate actor-turned-politician Vijayashanti in the election.
