Nizamabad: An ordinary-looking girl doing an extraordinary feat is worth appreciating. A glance at Malavath Poorna makes everyone wonder as to how she could achieve such an extraordinary feat.

Born to Lakshmi and Devidas in the tribal tanda of Pakala in Sirikonda mandal, Malavath Poorna is now the personification of self-confidence. Her elder brother Naresh is a diploma holder.

Poorna studied in her native village Pakala upto fifth class. The teachers advised the parents to send her for higher studies and one of the teachers got her admitted in Tadwai Gurukul Social Welfare School. While she was studying ninth class, the parents received a phone call from the school management regarding the trekking to Mount Everest. They refused to give them permission for the expedition. However, after much persuasion, Poorna was allowed to participate in the training camp for expedition. The rest is history.

Poorna was accorded a warm welcome at Kondapur in Sirikonda mandal and she was taken to her native village in a massive rally. She unveiled the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in the village.

Nizamabad DCC president Taher Bin Hamdan, coaches Sekhar Babu and Parameshwar, sarpanches of various villages, MPTCs and leaders of Girijans Associations have participated in the felicitation programme organised for Poorna in the village.

Thanking to the felication, Malavath Poorna said that she would be grateful to IPS officer Praveen Kumar. She expressed her desire to become an IPS officer like him.

Recalling the details of training, she said that training was given 110 students at Bhuvanagiri training camp for five days. Among them 20 students were hand-picked and given special training at Darjeeling for 20 days. On April 6, we started our journey to Hiamalayas from Hyderabad. Starting the trekking, we reached the base camp at 5400 metres and from there to another base camp at 6400 metres and finally reached the camp at 7100 metres. Since the atmosphere was not favourable, we stayed there for 15 days. On April 19th, we started the trekking and reached the Advance Camp on 20th. After one day rest, we reached the camp 1, camp 2 and camp 3 on April 21, 22 and 23 respectively. The camp 3 is called Dead Zone. Finally on April 26, we reached the Summit head camp where we placed the photographs of BR Ambedkar and former IAS officer Shankaran. After spending 15 minutes there, we started our downward journey.

Poorna expressed her gratitude for the support she received for the achieving the great feat. Coach Parameswar and team leader Sekhar Babu also spoke.
