Telangana BJP President G Kishen Reddy, who called on Amit Shah for the first time after the latter assumed charge, said Amit Shah has accepted his invitation to visit Telangana. The BJP is expected to focus on strengthening its base, right from the village-level upwards, in the newly-created State.
After the meeting with BJP president Amit Shah, Kishen Reddy demanded that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should come together to end the uncertainty looming large over the students on the issue of fee reimbursement. Kishen Reddy questioned the logic of fixing 1956 as the cut-off date and pointed out that it meant every student would have to establish the credentials of three generations. Besides, if Telangana Government paid for Telangana students and Andhra Pradesh Government for the Andhra students, he wondered how the students from other States would fare.
Amit Shah spoke over telephone with Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan for expediting AIIMS for Telangana. The Health Minister, who was away in Bhubaneshwar, said he would personally look into the matter.
Amit Shah asked the Telangana BJP to ensure the resettlement and rehabilitation of the Adivavsis displaced by the Polavaram Project. The Telangana BJP should play the role of a watchdog and ensure justice, he said.
Kishen Reddy stoutly opposed the Telangana Government proposal for according 12 per cent Muslim reservation. Kishen Reddy said it would not stand judicial scrutiny as the Constitution does not provide for religion-based reservations. The previous Congress Government move for 4.5 quota was still pending in the court, he recalled. The BJP leader said there was no difference between the Congress and the TRS on issues like Muslim reservations and ties with the MIM.
The TRS, he said, should cooperate with the Modi Government for the speedy development of the newly-carved out State. Andhra Pradesh was doing it and Telangana should not lag behind, he said.
