Khammam: Several senior Singareni Collieries officials, including two general managers, were freed on Tuesday evening after being detained in the main SCCL office at Kothagudem by workers, who are members of the ‘Telangana Boggugani Karmika Sangham’, to protest a cut in the festival advance.

The officials’ release follows a promise by the management to hold discussions on Wednesday The SCCL had reached an agreement, signed by director P Vijayakumar, with the sangham to pay Rs.16,000 as festival advance to 61,000 company workers. However, only Rs.14, 000 was paid by officials to 6,000 Muslim workers. This angered the workmen, who went to the SCCL office and argued with officials.

The angry workers detained several officials, including GMs Sivaram Reddy (security) Aanandkumar(welfare) in an office room. The workers are agitating, which they threatened to continue till the balance amount is paid. The police, who intervened in the row, held discussions with the sangham leaders and SCCL officials.
