Hyderabad: The Telangana State government is set to enter into power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Chhattisgarh government for the purchase of 2,000 mw of power. A team of TS energy department officials led by Principal Secretary (Energy) SK Joshi will be meeting the Chhattisgarh Discom officials on Wednesday.

It is learnt that the Chhattisgarh government has written to the TS government expressing its willingness to supply 2,000 mw of power. Once the Telangana government finalises the cost of power purchase, it has to take the clearance of TS Electricity Regulatory Commission to go ahead.

The Telangana government is forced to purchase power from other States, after the Andhra Pradesh government cancelled the PPAs that were not approved by the APERC.

The TS government is also to call for tenders to lay dedicated power lines from Chhattisgarh to Telangana State to carry power in order to bridge the gap between

demand and supply.

Meanwhile, the crucial meeting between the energy department officials of the TS and the AP governments scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Wednesday has been postponed. The meeting was to discuss and sort out the contentious issue of power projects and power sharing between the two States. The refusal of the AP government to give information about power generation at Pileru and power sharing schedules between the two States etc. were also to be discussed.
