Talking to media after a review meeting here on Tuesday over the police lathi-charge in Medak, he said he spoke to the representatives of Telangana police officers over the incident and added that farmers had every right to express their anguish peacefully as they have been facing problems due to crop failure. The government, which was pro-farmer, did not wish to suppress their voice, he said.

The Minister, however, said the police resorted to lathi-charge as some anti-social elements crept up into the agitation and created trouble like stone-pelting forcing the police to take charge. He further blamed the former governments and their policies of last 10-15 years for the State's power problem.

The Home Minister also made sensational remark that the Centre had withdrawn the proposal to extend special powers to the Governor aimed at efficient handling the city’s law and order issues. He said it was because of few vested interests that the city police was proposed to be brought under the Governor’s control. “Even the police association is against the decision. The government which has democratically won should be vested with these powers not the Governor,” he said.

Expressing government’s resolve to solve the problems faced by police officials, he said the government would form a committee to look into various issues including that of ‘promotions’.

It will ensure that the committee reviews the situation regularly and solves these problems. He recalled various sops extended by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to the police personnel, including the provision of weekly off.

Highlighting the importance of police stations in the society, he held that if the Inspectors and SI solve most of the issues at their disposal then there would be no question of people approaching higher ups and Ministers.
