Nalgonda: The Rakhi festival proved to be a disaster for a boy and his sister, who were killed in a road accident near Yellareddigudem, in Narketpalli mandal of Nalgonda district on Sunday when a speeding car hit their bike.

The victims, identified as residents of Urumadla in Chityal mandal, were son and daughter of two sisters. They were returning from Cheruvugattu to celebrate the festival. The car driver was drunk, according to the police.

Passersby were moved to tears after finding rakhis and sweets carried by the victims lying scattered on the road. Relatives of the deceased and villagers staged a dharna on the road to protest the rash and negligent action of the car driver.

Following the mishap the car hit an electric pole, leading to snapping of power. A major mishap was averted as none was present on the road.
