Shangar Basti raided by police; 56 held

As part of the reducing the crime rate in and around the state, the Hyderabad police have initiated a card and search operation in Hyderabad. All homes at Shangar Basti in Hyderabad were hunted thoroughly under the headship of Satyanarayana, the West Zone Mandal DCP. All the 24 groups of police have carried out thorough search operations and filtered every nook and corner of Shangar Basti. As many as 56 suspected criminals have been held by the police.

With the help of Google maps, the locations of old criminals were identified by the police, before they carried out a card and search operation. Of these 56 suspected criminals who have been held, most are women involved in the household robberies, reportedly. Cash, gold, water pumps sets et al has been seized from them. There was a strong opposition from the people for these search operations. A woman even attempted self immolation by pouring kerosene over her body, reportedly. Some more areas have been identified for similar operations.
