Warangal: Director-General of Police Anurag Sharma on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to the police martyrs, saying they made supreme sacrifices lives while discharging their duties with dedication. The department would stand by its personnel and their families and take care of their welfare.

The DGP inaugurated ‘Amaraveerula Smruthivanam’ built under the aegis of Rural Superintendent of Police Lella Kalidas at the District Police headquarters and a gymnasium set up in memory of SI N Mahesh Kumar, who was killed in an exchange of fire with naxals.

He offered floral tributes to martyrs. He said the police personnel had been working for the cause of public safety. A large number of them had lost their lives while discharging their duty.

He planted a sapling in a new garden named after the martyrs. Every sapling planted was dedicated to each martyr, reflecting the bonding between the families and martyrs, Sharma observed.

Later speaking to the media at Bhadrakali Temple, he said efforts were being made to establish a police commissionerate in Warangal. A proposal in this regard had been submitted to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Warangal Range DIG M Kantha Rao, Kalidas and Urban SP A Venkateswar Rao welcomed the DGP. Additional SPs K Srikanth and Yadaiah were present.

The DGP visited historic Thousand Pillar Temple and Bhadrakali Temples along with his wife Mamatha Anurag and offered special pooja. At the Thousand Pillar Temple main priest G Upendra Sharma conducted the pooja.
