On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi\'s 145th birth anniversary, ‘Swachhta Shapath’ (cleanliness oath) was taken by Chanchalguda Central Prison authorities on Wednesday.

Hyderabad: On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 145th birth anniversary, ‘Swachhta Shapath’ (cleanliness oath) was taken by Chanchalguda Central Prison authorities on Wednesday. The oath was administered by Chanchalguda Central Prison Superintendent B Saidaiah on the orders of DG (Prisons & Correctional Services) VK Singh.

“I will start the cleanliness drive from myself, my family, my neighbourhood and my workplace. I believe that countries which are clean are so because their citizens believe in sanitation and hygienic practices. I will administer the oath to 100 others. I will try that those 100 also work towards hygiene and sanitation,” the oath read.

All staff members pledged to perform duty as per rules and regulations framed by the Prisons Department and also promised to strengthen the State of Telangana without giving any scope of dishonesty or succumb to any sort of pressure. L Narasimha Reddy, Judge, High Court, Hyderabad, T Rajani, Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Hyderabad and Radha Devi, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Hyderabad were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Army units under Andhra Sub Area today took ‘Swachhata Shapath’ as part of the national campaign ‘Swachh Bharat’, and pledged to work for the clean and green environment in and around cantonment areas.

Army units had also launched an awareness campaign week from September 25 to October 2. During the campaign 'Sharmdaan' was conducted by all ranks and families in residential areas, parks and office premises. The drive was taken up on war footings to clear drains and garbage bins in and around the areas. Task teams from various units in the army cantonment in Secunderabad and Golconda were formed to address these issues in various localities.

Besides, through lectures, education and mass awareness campaign by army health officers and unit health and hygiene teams, efforts were made to inculcate a sense of cleanliness among people to teach how effective it is to dispose household garbage.

A painting competition was organised on October 1, on the theme 'Swatchh Bharat: Clean India, Green India' for Army schools and Kendriya Vidyalaya children followed by plantation drive of saplings by children and others in Bolarum Cantonment area. The GOC Andhra Sub Area and other senior officers also took part in the campaign.
