Hyderabad: It is not possible to have local reservations for the Telangana youth in proposed Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) project coming up in Hyderabad city.

K T Rama Rao, the Minister for Information Technology, stated this in a reply to a question in the Legislative Council. However, the Telangana government would ensure a certain level of employment for the local youth in unskilled and semi-skilled jobs, he added.

The opposition leader D Srinivas wanted the government to explore the possibilities for local reservations in the IT software and hardware companies to be located in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) area.

But, Rama Rao categorically stated that local reservations are not possible in the IT jobs as these companies are be in the private sector. When the ITIR is fully implemented and commissioned, it is expected to generate an additional direct IT employment of 15.4 lakhs (14 lakhs jobs in IT/ITES and 1.4 lakhs jobs in Electronic Hardware & Manufacturing (EHM) Sectors). The indirect employment generation by the IT Sector as per the findings of National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) is nearly four times that of the direct employment.

The IT activities in the ITIR will generate additional 50.6 lakh indirect jobs and the EHM Industry will generate additional indirect employment for 2.3 lakh people in the service industry like catering, housekeeping, security, transport, etc, the Minister added.
