Telangana govt felicitates Ch Vidyasagar Rao

Hyderabad: Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao on Sunday stated that he would use his good office to ensure irrigation projects being built on Godavari river in Telangana did not face any hassles from neighbouring States like Maharashtra. Further, he vowed to expedite the inland water transport project to link Godavari with sea.

Telangana government arranged a reception for the new governor of Maharashtra at Jalavihar on Sunday. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao felicitated Vidyasagar Rao, who came for a brief visit to his native State. Governor ESL Narasimhan, Deputy Chief Ministers T Rajaiah, Mahmood Ali, Legislative Council chairman K Swamy Goud, Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumanth Rao (Congress), Chada Venkat Reddy (CPI) as well as Ministers and TRS legislators graced the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Vidyasagar Rao desired Godavari water to reach every village in the region. Constructing small barrages at different locations would facilitate inland water transport besides linking Telangana with sea, he said. The Maharashtra Governor vowed to do his bit to ensure few irrigation projects of Telangana got clearances from Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh governments. Vidyasagar Rao thanked Telangana government for the felicitation, which he felt, would remain as a lasting memory in his life. Speaking earlier, KCR recalled his three decades association with the senior BJP leader. He said Vidyasagar Rao was a big support to him during the Telangana movement. In fact, his appointment as Governor was an honour to the entire people of Telangana, Rao felt. KCR sought Maharashtra Governor's help on power and clearances for Echampalli project.

Meanwhile, ESL Narasimhan termed Vidyasgar Rao as a good friend and a humanist. “He met me many times on various issues during the movement,” he said.
