Hyderabad: The State government would be spending `3,350 crore annually to provide pension to all eligible people under the Aasara pension scheme. CM KCR on Wednesday informed the Assembly that the government, as part of its welfare measures and social safety strategy, introduced Aasara (meaning support) to ensure ‘secure life with dignity’ for all the poor.

“We have identified 24.21 lakh eligible persons so far for the scheme. Aasara is meant to protect the most vulnerable sections of society, in particular the old and infirm.

The scheme will also help people with HIV-AIDS, widows, incapacitated weavers and toddy tappers, in order to support their day-to-day minimum needs to lead a life of dignity and social security,” said KCR. He said his government was prepared for an extensive debate on the topic
