Hyderabad: In what could be termed as a bonanza for state Energy department employees, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday gave his final nod to the long-pending demand to hike the salaries of the employees of the department.

He agreed to revise the pay scales with 30 per cent fitment and provide three increments to the senior employees who were in service above 15 years and two increments for those who complete below 15 years service. The new pay band would also be applicable to the pensioners.

KCR held a meeting with the Secretary (Energy) SK Joshi, TS Genco Chairman D Prabhakar Rao and the employee union leaders Rami Reddy, K Mohan Reddy and Sudhakar Rao and discussed the employees demands put forth by the unions.

With the increase of pay scales, the government would have to bear Rs 500 crore additional burden every year. At present, government is spending Rs 1,233 crore for the salaries of 26,894 employees working in the Energy department. For the pensioners, government should shell out Rs 100 crore additionally.

Rs 583 crore was allocated to pay pensions to 19,292 retired employees every year in the State. Stating that his government was committed to the welfare of the employees, the Chief Minister asserted the employees should rededicate themselves to the creation of 'Golden Telangana.'

Rao also informed the employees that private participation in the power generation would be reduced and establishment of state-owned projects would be encouraged in the coming days.
