Universities Employees JAC leaders submit memorandum to Minister Harish Rao

Warangal: The members of Telangana State Universities Employees JAC staged massive demonstration at Kakatiya University here on Tuesday demanding enhancement of budgetary allocation to the universities in the state.

The protest was staged as part of a series of agitations planned by the JAC against state government’s negligent attitude towards universities in Telangana. The leaders and members of the JAC sported placards and shouted slogans in support of their demands.

They were demanding increase in budgetary allocation to meet the expenditure of wages, enhancement of block grant to pay pensions and health cards to university employees on par with government employees.

Association of Kakatiya University Teachers (AKUT) president Prof M Sarangapani, general secretary V Krishna Reddy, non-teaching Staff JAC chairman P Kondal Reddy, convener K Shankar, leaders P Venkatram Narsaiah, Y Venkaiah, V Krishnamacharya, M Babu Rao, T Rajaiah, B Srujana and others participated in the protest.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders expressed serious concern over the government’s disregard towards universities which played a crucial role in statehood movement. They pointed out that the AP government increased budget allocation to universities in that state by double-fold while Telangana universities were facing severe funds crunch and were unable to pay salaries with meagre allocation by Telangana government.

The state government has been showing a step-motherly treatment towards universities which were centres of higher education. It would lead to decline of university education system. If the government failed to address the issue, a massive movement like Telangana agitation would be taken up, they warned.

A round-table meeting with scholars and intellectuals will be organised at KU Senate Hall on December 11. TJAC Chairman Prof Kodandaram, MLC P Ravinder and former Vice-Chancellor Prof V Gopal Reddy will take part, Prof Sarangapani informed. Later, the Universities Employees JAC leaders met Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao who was in the city on a day’s visit.

They submitted a memorandum of demands to him. The Minister assured to resolve their problems at the earliest.
Retired Employees Union leaders A Raghava Raju, D Vijay Kumar, NSR Murthy, Vidyasagar, and others expressed their solidarity with the JAC and participated in the demonstration.
