Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Sunday expressed confidence that the State government would complete the tender process for Mission Kakatiya project within a week's time.

Addressing a review meeting with the officials of irrigation department at the District Collectorate here, Harish Rao said the State government wanted to take up the Mission Kakatiya works on war-footing basis. Stating that funds would not be a constraint, he directed the officials to give top priority to the completion of works related to restoration of tanks and lakes.

Harish Rao said the restoration of tanks in Nalgonda would automatically increase the inflows into Nagarjunasagar Dam besides increasing the groundwater levels in the surrounding areas. He said the project would also lead to the revival of wells and bore-wells which turned dry.

The Minister hoped that the Mission Kakatiya project would lead to the complete restoration of lakes and tanks across Telangana State to their original status.

In another function, the Irrigation Minister said the TRS government would complete tunnel works of Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) in three years.

Laying foundation stone for open canal and reservoir works at Pendlipakala as part of SLBC project along with Minister G Jagadish Reddy, Harish Rao stressed the need for speedy completion works by active involvement of officials and the public. The State government was committed to complete irrigation projects in the State, including that of Nakkalagandi project in Nalgonda district, he said.

The Minister exuded confidence that additional 1.5 lakh acres of land in Warangal district would be irrigated on the completion of Pakala and Jurala projects. “Our priority is to distribute irrigation waters for crops to get more yield and better MSP,” he said.
