Uneasy silence prevails in Konda Surekha's camp with denial of cabinet berth

Warangal: It was a saving grace for the three-time MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, who was made Parliamentary secretary by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday. It may be noted that many TRS leaders here wanted that the MLA, who has been loyally associated with TRS for nearly 12 years and a popular face in the district party circles, be given a cabinet berth.

It was earlier rumoured that Vinay Bhaskar may get a Corporation Chairman post and would be asked to head the RTC or might be chosen to be a Whip. But acting in a balanced manner, the Chief Minister has made him the Parliamentary secretary.

The position holds the rank of a Minister of State and has the same entitlements as assigned to a government department. There was a controversy over the appointment of Parliamentary secretaries as various High Courts found that the appointments were unconstitutional and have ruled against such appointments often in the past.

Nevertheless, it was a comfort for Vinay Bhaskar, who wanted a place in the cabinet and it has also made his followers happy as he would be having all the privileges of a Minister. Marking his appointment as Parliamentary secretary, the MLA’s followers have celebrated by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.

Meanwhile, a painful silence prevailed among the followers of Warangal (East) MLA Konda Surekha, who expected a cabinet berth. It may be recalled that when she joined the TRS the party chief had himself offered her Minister post if the party formed the government.

But she was denied the chance when the cabinet was formed and she waited for a cabinet expansion to take place and now for the second time she was shown empty hand by the party chief. It was said many legislators and senior leaders in the party strongly opposed her induction into the cabinet.

According to the party sources, there have been a plenty of complaints against Surekha and her husband Muralidhar Rao. One among such was their non-attachment to party activities and its cadre.

It may be recalled that the party has faced severe criticism when he was welcomed into TRS from YSRCP in the light of her caustic remarks against the party as well as its president Chandrasekhar Rao. A member of KCR’s family and one MP from the district were the few supporters to her candidature for Minister’s post. It was said that the Chief Minister has assured to provide her chance in the next cabinet expansion.
