Hyderabad: The Telangana government is bit tense with the ongoing All-India Industrial Exhibition at Nampally where footfall has crossed a few lakh already. With sudden spurt in swine flu cases in city over the last few weeks, government is bit worried about impending risk of H1NI1 virus spreading to others as it is a communicable disease.

It is for this reason, Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Suresh Chanda is insisting on self-discipline on the part of city residents. He appealed to persons with cold and cough symptoms to go for Swine flu test without fail and be confined to four walls of their house until their health condition gets better. Swine flu is airborne and hence there is a good chance of others getting affected if affected persons walk freely in crowded areas, he said.

Thousands flock Numaish fair everyday and against this backdrop, government has alerted Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commission (GHMC) to take all precautionary steps. On the other hand, the health department is doing its bit to alert visitors to exhibition about safety tips. Wall posters and publicity material were put up in and around the premises. Also, it is setting up an exclusive stall in exhibition which is likely to be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister T Rajaiah on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Telangana health department is mulling over distribution of surgical masks for free or for nominal amount at Numaish for few days. This will reduce risk of visitors getting affected and they can go around the exhibition without any worries, stated a senior official of the department. Chilly weather (which aids the spread of virus) conditions are going to last for 10 days or so at the most. It is imperative for the people of Hyderabad to take safety precautions for this period, he noted.
