SWINE FLU DEATHS IN TELANGANA
Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) vice president Mohd Ali Shabbir demanded that the government declare health emergency in the State to curb swine flu, which claimed 21 lives in two days. Speaking to media at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, Shabbir urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to initiate adequate steps immediately to control swine flu with support from the Union government.
Stating that more than 220 persons were affected by the communicable disease in the State in January, the Congress leader alleged that on an average, ten persons were being affected with the dreaded disease. He demanded that the government provide vaccines and medicines free of cost to all people in the State irrespective of party and caste. He blamed Chandrashekar Rao for denying the swine flu deaths in the State earlier this month.
He said the government so far did not show seriousness in handling the situation though the Deputy Chief Minister was a doctor who was also holding Health and Medical portfolio. He said Health Minister T Rajaiah had declared that there was not a single death due to swine flu in the State couple of days ago.
“Today the government admitted that there were about five deaths due to swine flu and Chief Minister is said to have spoken to Prime Minister and sought Central help to handle the situation,” he said. The Congress leader urged the government to spread awareness among people about the dreaded disease. He also advised the Chief Minister to ensure availability of vaccines and medicines all over the State, including villages and tribal hamlets.
