Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) is understood to have adopted a wait and watch policy, despite growing pressure from the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States on the Board, over the sharing of Krishna River water between the two states.

The Board’s has decided to go slow on the issue as the Central government has not yet notified the jurisdiction of the Board as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

The Board feels that in the absence of a clear notification regarding its jurisdiction, it cannot perform its role.
Sources in the Central Water Commission (CWC), who were in the know of the things, told The Hans India that, the CWC was fully aware of the issue of on-going tussle between the two Telugu Speaking states and the matter has been under the keen observation at the highest level in the CWC, as well as in the Union Water Ministry (UWM).

However, the KRMB officials have decided to keep their fingers crossed until the Centre notifies its jurisdiction under Section 85(1) of the Andhra Pradesh Reorgnisation Act.

For time being, the KRMB would “try to bring consensus between the two States over any dispute that is brought to its notice,” the sources said.

The KRMB had reportedly made it clear to the UWM, apprising its experience during its meetings held at Hyderabad, that unless its jurisdiction was notified as per the act, its functioning would be difficult. They said, the members representing both the States are not in a position to take independent decision on the contentious issues and the board was not in a position to offer any solution to the problem as the officials say that they will have to consult their respective chief ministers before giving their nod.

Any advice given by the board is being projected as if the board was against or in favour of one government. Meanwhile, the AP Government is likely to send documentary evidence to on the utilization of Krishna waters by TS government.

Allocation should be State-wise subject
Hyderabad: Advisor to Telangana Government Vidyasagar Rao here on Sunday said the river water allocations should be made a states-wise instead of project-wise subject. Speaking to the media in the Secretariat, Vidyasagar Rao said out of 481 tmc of water coming from Jurala to Nagarjunasagar, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States have to share 281 and 200 tmc, respectively. The difference of share of water between the two States is 811 tmc. As per the AP Reorganization Act, Telangana should get 299 tmc and Andhra Pradesh 512 tmc. Rao expressed surprise over the argument of Andhra Pradesh that they should not talk about the share in waters. In that case, on what basis the two States could consume quantity of water if there was no agreement on the share of waters.

He also called for changes in the Bachawat Tribunal Award, as the original award of the tribunal pertains to undivided Andhra Pradesh.
