Medak: A man and his wife, who had been working in a Maoist Group for the past 15 years, surrendered before the police here on Sunday. Going into details, Reddaboina Swamy alias Janardhan, and his wife Shyamala alias Madhavi, of Balwanthpur village of Dubbaka mandal in the district, surrendered to the Medak Superintendent of Police Sumathi at the district police headquarters.

Earlier, Swamy worked in the Girayipalli Dalam and later joined Indu Priyal and Narsapur Dalams and played an active role in their technical team. As he was an expert in the operation of triggers, he was involved in several cases relating to the blowing up of buses.

Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police Sumathi said that with an increase in police encounters, Reddaboina Swamy shifted his base and joined the Maoist group in Chattisgarh. The couple worked in the rocket launching section of the Maoist group, she said.

Sumathi said that the couple was attracted by the social welfare schemes launched by the Telangana State government, and decided to surrender to the police. She said that the government decided to reward the Maoist couple by presenting Rs 5 lakh to Swamy and Rs 1 lakh to Shyamala and another Rs 5,000 as immediate payment.

The Superintendent of Police lauded the couple Swamy and Shyamala for joining the social mainstream and said that they would get all the benefits announced by the government for surrendered Maoists. She said that police department would write a letter to the Medak District Collector in this regard.
