Armoor (Nizamabad): Transport Minister Dr P Mahender Reddy has said that the government would take measures to expand the services of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation into remote areas and make it the best in the country. Addressing the gathering here after inaugurating development works worth Rs 25 lakh in the RTC bus depot here on Friday, he said that there were 10,466 buses with 57,500 staff members working in 94 depots in Telangana state to provide services to the people.

Mahender Reddy said that 1,300 villages in the district still do not have bus services and the government would construct roads and provide bus services to the people living in remote areas. He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao sanctioned Rs 10,000 crore for Roads & Buildings department and Rs 5,000 crore for the Panchayat Raj institutions to construct roads.

The Minister said that bus services would be provided after constructing roads connecting all the mandals with the state capital. He said that 400 Palle Velugu buses would be pressed into service for all the villages at a cost of Rs 150 crore. Furthermore, 100 Volvo buses would be pressed into service from the district headquarters to the state capital, he said and added that bus services would also be introduced to Mumbai and Benguluru on the order of priority.

Mahender Reddy said that he met the Union Minister for Surface Transport Nithin Gadkari earlier and apprised him of the transport requirements in the state, as a result of which, the Union Minister organised a meeting with the officials of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He said that he would meet the Union Minister again on February 10.

The Transport Minster lauded the efforts of the TSRTC employees in the agitation for separate statehood and they would be provided with all the facilities. He said that the bus depots at Bheengal and Nandipet mandals in Nizamabad would be modernised and funds would be sanctioned for the construction of bypass road in Armoor.

Mahender Reddy said that the TRS government would implement several social welfare programmes for the farmers, women, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and the minorities. Telangana Legislative Council Chairman K Swamy Goud called for united efforts to turn the State into Bangaru Telangana.

MLA Jeevan Reddy lauded the State government for implementing many several welfare programmes. He urged the Transport Minister to construct new bus depots and introduce new bus services in Armoor. Purushottam Nayar, Executive Director, RTC Karimnagar Region, OSD Krishna Kanth, Regional Manager Ramakanth, Deputy Transport commissioner Rajarathnam and others were present.
