Hyderabad: The doctors from United Kingdom who have examined Veena and Vani were startled by the latters’ intelligence. Speaking to The Hans India, David Dunaway, Head Craniofacial Unit, Great Ormond Street Hospital, UK, said twin sisters were intelligent and understandable.

“They want to undergo surgery in a safe manner and lead a normal life like everyone. Their English is good and they want to go to school and study,” he informed. When asked whether they could lead a normal life like others, David said that earlier they had performed similar operations on conjoined twins and children are fine now.

“Recently we had call from the parents and they told us that their children were doing well,” he added. With the assurance from the doctors, parents of the twin sisters were looked relieved. Father of twins M Murali said, “Earlier several doctors have come forward to look into the case.

But they could not give assurance to us. This time these doctors have assured 80 per cent and also informed about the complications like polio and brain damage that might affect them. We have given our consent to the doctors to perform surgery.”

He said that any of his family members could accompany their daughters if they were flown to the UK. Murali who makes a living by driving an autorickshaw in Warangal district said, “I have four daughters. Elder daughter Akhila is in class VIII, and younger daughter Ambica is in class V. I will also send Veena and Vani to school once they get well.”
