Nalgonda: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla on Sunday underlined the need to encourage and support the skills and talent inherent in the disabled. He unveiled the statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya at Surdas Bhavan here.

Speaking at a meeting organised here on Sunday, he said that disability would not become a hurdle in achieving goals, if they got encouragement and support from the society.

He assured that he was always ready to resolve their issues by pursuing the issues with the Centre.

He also exhorted the disabled students, who attended the meeting, to get inspired from the lives of Swami Vivekananda, Deendayal Upadhyaya and Lal Bahadur Shastri and try to overcome the disability to achieve their goals.

Narrating his own experience, the Union Minister said, “I often recall one incident that shaped and inspired my life.

While I was working as assistant plumber in a construction company of Saudi Arabia, I was asked to clean human excreta and repair a bathroom. I flatly refused to do the cleaning part while telling the company owner that I was a plumber.

When I refused to do the job, the man put on plastic gloves and cleaned the muck himself. Then the company owner told that India had plenty of natural resources to emerge as a super power, but this kind of attitude was a big hurdle in its growth. It taught me the difference between oppression against Dalits and the will to work.”

Sampla said that he was born into a poor Dalit family and never expected to become a Union Minister. But, God gave him the opportunity to serve people, he added.

BJP Dalit Morcha Telangana State president K Ramulu, BJP Nalgonda district president V Chandrasekhar, Development and Welfare Association of the Blind Telangana State general secretary P Chokka Rao and others attended the meeting.
