Baby’s death at workplace

Sangareddy: Malleswari, a migrant worker in Emmennar Pharma, who reportedly lost her six-month-old baby boy on February 6, as her contractor did not allow her to feed the baby, lodged a formal complaint with the police on Tuesday. The complaint was filed against the contractor, according to Circle Inspector Ram Reddy, Hathnura police station. Talking to the media, she said she hailed from Kakarlapahad village under Nawabpeta Mandal in Mahabubnagar district.

She has been working as a construction worker in the company for several months. Six months ago she came to Turkalapalli village under Hathnura Mandal to work at the company site. She has been living there with six members of her family in a shed built within the premises. Though the workers at the sight were supposed to work between 8 am and 6 pm, the supervisor at the workplace forced them to work day and night, she said.

On the fateful day when her baby died of hunger, she said the supervisor did not allow her to feed her baby despite her pleas and forced her to work till 6 am the next the day morning. On knowing that the baby died, the supervisor took the body by a van to Naraspur and buried it. She said she was not allowed to come out of the workplace for two days for the fear that she might expose the supervisor’s “cruelty.”
