Mahabubnagar: People in the district are optimistic that Central government would meet their long-pending demands in the ensuing railway budget which would be presented in the Parliament very soon. More than 60 passenger trains pass through Mahabubnagar railway station in a day on a single track.
Commuters travelling frequently from Mahabubnagar railway station are facing severe inconveniences as trains are halted at railway stations for hours together due to crossing of trains on the single track. Traffic woes are multiplied with passing of express trains like Rajdhani and Sampark Kranti through the main railway stations of Mahabubnagar and Gadwal. However, these express trains have no halt at Mahabubnagar and Gadwal.
People urge the railway authorities to take up doubling works from Umdanagar to Dronachalam for easing the traffic problems. Nearest railway route for reaching Bengaluru, Tirupati and Chennai from Hyderabad is to pass through Mahabubnagar. But, most trains are taking long routes to reach Tirupati and Chennai from Hyderabad by passing through Kazipet and Vijayawada. Likewise, trains are passing through Vikarabad and Raichur to reach Bengaluru from Hyderabad. If track doubling works are completed from Umdanagar to Dronachalam, it would be helpful for people of Mahabubnagar and Kurnool districts to reach Tirupati, Chennai and Bengaluru.
Proposal of laying railway track between Gadwal and Macherla has been pending since 1952 Apart from conducting survey for three times, no concrete effort was made by people’s representatives to pursue the matter with railway officials. People of Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Kalwakurthy, Devarakonda can benefit if track is laid between Gadwal and Macherla.
There was no mention of development of Mahabubnagar and Gadwal railway stations in the previous budget. So far, developmental works were not taken up at Mahabubnagar and Gadwal railway stations even though announcement was made four years ago. During peak hours, passengers find it difficult to purchase tickets at Mahabubnagar, Jadcherla and Shadnagar railway stations. People demand that the railway authorities should declare Mahabubnagar station as model railway station considering the traffic flow. Gadwal railway station lacks basic facilities for passengers despite making it as a junction.
When Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy was Minister for State for Railways, a double-decker train was sanctioned between Kacheguda and Tirupati via Mahabubnagar and Kurnool. But, the double-decker has no patronage from the people. So far, the promise of introducing an express train from Dronachalam to Mumbai through Gadwal and Raichur was not realised. People urge the railway authorities to set up a Railway Training Institute in 110 acres of railway land near Gadwal junction. Railway officials are yet to construct railway over-bridges and under-bridges at several places in the district. People request the railway authorities to render justice to the district in the ensuing Railway Budget by clearing pending projects.
