The Telangana Government’s release of Rs 5.59 crores to make ornaments to various temples in the state is surprising at this juncture. This reminds every one the story of Sri Ramadasu. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s devotion may have earned Telangana a separate statehood and KCR sure owes it to the Lord.

The Telangana chief minister may have thought that when the Lord fulfilled his wishes, it's time to repay. But the TRS chief must ponder if he is setting a right precedent or not in this matter. KCR has every right to fulfill his vows for earning the plum post of Head of State, but not from the state exchequer.

Tax payer’s money has to be spent more responsibly especially when the state’s finances are in bad shape. The Telangana Government must plan the economic priorities in the interest of common man. Governments have to spend each rupee calculatedly.
A quick recap of recent happenings makes us think if the T government is really cautious about money. Sample these... buying hundreds of vehicles to police at one shot, changing of offices of administration at huge costs in the name of vaastu, making visits to foreign countries in the name of study of smart city development and study of industrial development.
Many chief ministers, governors, prime minsters, presidents not only of our country even from our neighbouring countries visit Tirumala and pay their respect to Lord Venkateswara. But they will do it on a personal level but not from the tax payer’s money.
There is nothing wrong in presenting the lord with ornaments and jewellery on the auspicious occasion and when the government gets stabilised financially so that one cannot find fault for donating a huge sum of money to a religious cause.
God never asks ornaments and gifts to himself, it is upon the satisfaction of one’s wishes we present god with gifts. God can never spare a culprit even if he presents him a golden Kireetam (head ornament) studded with diamonds.
This we have seen in history as many businessmen and mining kings who presented lord with such gifts have gone behind bars or lost their place in public domain. What we should understand from our Hindu Dharma is “service to human is service to God”, Daridra narayano bhava. The government should help the poor and downtrodden to the maximum and see that no farmer in this land which was once known as the Rice Bowl of India, dies of hunger. This is what God expects from our rulers.
