Centre favours AP over Telangana in main scheme Starting with the financial aid received from the Centre not being enough and now the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyothi Yojana (DDUGJY) and Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) instead of being accorded to Telangana, the Union ministry of power has favoured Andhra Pradesh with the same.

The Telangana government is on the verge of receiving blows one after the other from the Centre. Starting with the financial aid received from the Centre not being enough and now the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyothi Yojana (DDUGJY) and Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) instead of being accorded to Telangana, the Union ministry of power has favoured Andhra Pradesh with the same.

The DDUGJY scheme is designed mainly to detach agriculture and non-agriculture electrical feeders in rural areas. Currently, power supply is being provided on a single feeder for both the agriculture and non-agriculture consumers resulting in either the farmers or domestic consumers to be supplied with power while other category faces a power cut. With feeders division, both categories of consumers would be ensured of simultaneous power supply.

The IPDS programme is for reduction of transmission losses, improvement of power supply, improvement of billed energy in urban areas and IT enabled energy accounting. Telangana that has been facing power crisis needs support through these schemes from the Centre.

Despite sending the Detailed Project Reports (DPR), the Need Assessment Document immediately after the scheme announcement, AP was considered for DDUGJY without making any move. The proposals sent for Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) was for Rs 5,043 crore while for Northern Power Distribution Company Limited under DDUGJY was for Rs 3,000 crore.

The DDUGJY was approved by the Union Cabinet with a cost of Rs 43,033 crore including budgetary support of Rs 33,453 crore from the Centre. Even IPDS was approved for Rs 32,612 crore that included budgetary support from the Centre for Rs 25,354 crore.
