Hyderabad: The Telangana government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure people of the state do not face drinking water shortage this summer. It has decided to release Rs 263 crore as summer contingency plan for this purpose. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao made an announcement in this regard on the floor of the Assembly on Tuesday.

Speaking to newsmen earlier, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister K Tarakarama Rao stated that Rural Water Supply department prepared the contingency plan after one and half month ground work (from February 1 to March 15) in various villages in nine districts except Hyderabad.

Local elected representatives and Panchayat Raj department staff assisted RWS in this task, he added. Elaborating details, the minister stated district-wise contingency plan was prepared. Officials surveyed water sources in villages, any need for repairing bore wells, laying of pipelines if required, he said. Further, instructions were given to supply water through tankers incase bore wells go dry in villages. Private tankers would also be roped in if the demand is high, he said. KTR stated that Collectors were given directions not to cut-off power connection to water pump sets this summer.
