Hyderabad: The TS Assembly on Friday witnessed some heated exchanges between the Congress member D K Aruna and the ruling party members as she alleged that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was discriminating against constituencies represented by Congress MLAs.

Aruna alleged that the Chief Minister reneged on his promise to develop all areas equally in Telangana State post bifurcation. In reality, KCR had earmarked huge funds to the constituencies represented by the TRS MLAs and gave meagre allocations to the Congress MLAs. For instance, her constituency was given only Rs 4 crore for road development works, whereas the TRS MLAs got not less than Rs 40 crore each, she added.

The discrimination shown by the Chief Minister in the allocation of funds was akin to the partisanship shown towards Telangana region by the successive governments in the erstwhile united AP, the Congress leader suggested that the government stop following the previous regimes’ discriminative approach and instead concentrate on the holistic development of the state.

Finance Minister E Rajendar contended no such discrimination was shown in the allocations. Jagityal constituency in Karimnagar district from where the CLP Deputy leader T Jeevan Reddy had been given Rs 120 crore. Depending on the requirement of funds, the allocations were made to each Assembly constituency.

He recalled the Telangana region was given only Rs 18 crore out of Rs 138 crore allocated for development works taken up by Panchayat Raj Department in the united state. The TRS , as an opposition party, fought against the injustice meted out to Telangna State but in vain, he added. Responding to Aruna’s allegation that government had altered Metro Rail alignment only for monetary gains, the Minister said some change in the design was made to protect the historical monuments.
