Justice Vilas Afzulpurkar on Thursday stayed proceedings issued by JNTU (H) requiring minority-designated institutions to fall in line and have its nominee on the selection committee of faculty. Various minority educational institutions moved the court questioning orders of March 25 and 27 intimating the minority colleges that they must include a nominee of the university in their respective selection committee.

The minority educational institutions contend that the order was contrary to repeated declarations of law by the Supreme Court on the Rights of Minorities to maintain their educational institutions. The petitioners argued that insisting upon a government representative in the committee would be in violation of Article 300 of the Constitution. Minority institutions were asked to take steps as per the impugned order by April 4. The judge stayed the order till April 6 when the court will resume hearing on the matter.
