Hyderabad: Stray incidents of stone pelting were reported in some parts of the Old City of Hyderabad after the Friday prayers. Accusing the Telangana police of resorting to "fake encounter" at Alair in which five under-trials were killed, a few youth resorted to slogan shouting after the Friday prayers at Mecca Masjid. While huge contingents of police forces, including Rapid Action Force, was deployed near Mecca Masjid, the activists of Greater Hyderabad Youth Association (GHYA), an NGO, successfully pacified the agitating youth to refrain from any kind of violence.

The namajis raised slogans and created tense moments near Volta Hotel Crossroads in Moghalpura with Charminar as epicentre after police lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the protesting mob.Meanwhile, GHYA Chairman MA Irfan suffered a minor injury due to stone pelting. The situation near Mecca Masjid was brought under control within few minutes.

However, stray incidents of stone pelting were reported from a few places like Moghalpura. Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy, who was monitoring the situation from the Charminar ACP office, stated that the situation was under control and additional forces have been deployed in all sensitive areas.
