Karimnagar: No entry for men especially eve-teasers into anganwadi centres. Hereafter, males especially non-officials would not be allowed into centres without prior permission. The state government, in this regard, has issued a circular preventing the men from entering into centres. According to the circular, legal action will be initiated against the men who forcefully enter into angawadi centres and create troubles.

In the wake of pressure on anganwadi teachers and helpers by outsiders, anganwadi staff recently brought the issue to the notice of the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who directed the officials concerned to issue a circular banning the entry of men into centres. Circular No. 808/ICDS was issued on March 25 banning the entry of men into 35,000 centres across the state, Women and Child Development department source said.

Source also said with a view to provide nutritious food to pregnant women and nursing mothers, the state government has launched ‘One-Full- Meal’ under Aarogyalaxmi scheme, wherein the women should take lunch in anganwadi centre itself instead of taking cooking material such as rice, pulses and eggs to their homes which was in practice earlier.

In this scenario, the intervention of the local youth has increased in the day- to- day activity of centres, an anganwadi teacher said on the condition of anonymity. Local youth were unnecessarily creating problems by frequently visiting centres, she said and added that women were facing troubles to visit centres with men gathering at centres. Speaking to The Hans India, Telangana Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association district president, Yeruva Lalitha Reddy said local political leaders were making baseless allegations against anganwadi workers for their political gains.

Miscreants threaten workers by seeking information under Right to Information (RTI) Act, she said Confirming the issue of circular, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) project director, Mohan Reddy said ban was not for all men and the main aim of the circular was to control harassment by eve- teasers. It would not prevent the male government officials from visiting centres and inspect the functioning of anganwadis, he informed.
