Hyderabad: Giving a big boost for polytechnic education in the State, the government has decided to spend Rs 195.92 crore for constructing new buildings for polytechnic colleges and upgradation of the existing infrastructure, for the academic year 2015-16. Of the total, the government spent Rs 148.42 crore for constructing new buildings for 25 government polytechnic colleges, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari told the newsmen at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Kadiyam informed that Rs 19 crore was being spent to construct women’s hostels in 19 government polytechnic colleges and works for additional classes, laboratories in 23 government polytechnic colleges to tune of Rs 34.50 crore were on. He stated that under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) and State fund, new buildings would be built for all government polytechnics.

The Education Minister said the government would appoint faculty for newly sanctioned polytechnic colleges and would also fill up vacant posts. “The government is spending huge amount to provide quality and the best polytechnic education,” Kadiyam said. The Deputy Chief Minister revealed that under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (Rusa), the Central government sanctioned Rs 126 crore for degree colleges in the State.

“While Rs 20 crore each for Osmania University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological-Hyderabad will be given. Rs 86 crore will spent for upgrading government degree colleges”, Kadiyam said. From State plan funds, the government would construct new buildings for seven government degree colleges to tune of Rs 24.50 crore and each building would come up with Rs 3.50 crore Kadiyam made it clear that those contract lecturers who were recruited as per the guidelines would be regularised.
