Festive fervour prevailed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Saturday as people celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr in a grand manner by offering prayers at mosques, exchanging pleasantries, gifts and participating in festivities with their kith and kin. Dressed in festive attire, hundreds of people turned up at the historic Mecca Masjid at Charminar and several other Eidgahs and mosques marking the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan.

Hyderabad: Festive fervour prevailed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Saturday as people celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr in a grand manner by offering prayers at mosques, exchanging pleasantries, gifts and participating in festivities with their kith and kin. Dressed in festive attire, hundreds of people turned up at the historic Mecca Masjid at Charminar and several other Eidgahs and mosques marking the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan.
Major gatherings were seen at Mir Alam Eidgah, Ek Minar at Nampally, Eidgahs at Madannapet, Chilkalguda, Ujale Shah, Eidgah Bilali at AC Guards and Saat Gumbad. Soon after the ‘namaz’, people hugged each other and the mosques reverberated with greetings of ‘Eid Mubarak’. On the occasion, people were seen exchanging gifts and savouring special dishes, particularly ‘semyian’ made of vermicelli, and different varieties of biryani and kebabs.
Elders gave 'eidee' (token money) to children. Many people visited their relatives and gave alms to the needy. Wearing new clothes and skull caps, men and children offered prayers at hundreds of Eidgahs and mosques in Nizamabad, Adilabad, Bhainsa, Karimnagar, Warangal, Mahbubnagar in Telangana and Kurnool, Guntur, Vijayawada, Kadapa, Anantapur and Tirupati and other towns in Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu participated in Eid celebrations in Rajahmundry.
Addressing the gatherings, priests exhorted Muslims to strengthen their relation with the holy Quran and continue the pious deeds of Ramzan. Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Mahendar Reddy made elaborate security arrangements in the old city and other parts of Hyderabad.
He said that over 15,000 police constables were deployed in various parts of the twin cities for the occasion. Vehicular traffic was diverted at several points around Eidgahs in Hyderabad for smooth conduct of prayers. Communal harmony was witnessed at Eidgahs with public representatives of various political parties, top police and civil officials reaching there to greet their Muslim brethren.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao exchanged pleasantries with his deputy Mahmood Ali at Ministers quarters. Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, MPs K Kavitha, B Suman, MLAs Prabhakar, Lakshman, MLCs Sudhakar Reddy, Srinivas Reddy, Saleem and others were among those who attended the ritual and exchanged pleasantries with traditional hug.
