Party activists agitate across two States; burn Modi’s effigy
Hyderabad: Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs) held protests across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday in protest against the suspension of 25 Congress MPs for five days from the Lok Sabha.
The agitating Congress activists also burnt effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. TPCC and APCC organised joint protest at the respective party headquarters at Nampally in Hyderabad. Earlier, TPCC and APCC presidents N Uttam Kumar Reddy and N Raghuveera Reddy addressed a joint press conference to condemn the suspension of Congress MPs from the House.
They alleged that the NDA government had been trying to suppress the voice of the Opposition by keeping them out of the House. They said instead of taking action against the tainted Ministers, the Central government was trying to silence the Opposition.
They said the Congress would continue the agitation until the Prime Minister sack Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the issue of Lalit Modi.
Raghuveera Reddy said the NDA government at the Centre and the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh had been encouraging corruption. Speaking about ‘cash-for-vote’ case, he said the CBI enquiry was essential to expose the real culprits involved in the crime.
However, he said the Central government had not ordered a CBI enquiry to protect its ally Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Meanwhile, the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee, led by its president D Nagender, organised a protest at Basheerbagh Crossroads. Similar protests were organised in different parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
