Hyderabad: The Congress demanded the government to convene Assembly session to discuss the agrarian crises and drought situation in the State. The party feels that the exercise will help coming up with alternative strategy to contain the problem.

Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises, the Leader of Opposition in Assembly K Jana Reddy said that the farmers were suffering due to government negligence and there was need for instilling confidence amongst the farming community.

The government must ponder over some alternative plans by taking into consideration the views of all the political parties. Hence the government must convene the Assembly sessions, he demanded.

The CLP leader held that the real beneficiaries of Indiramma housing should not be punished for wrong doings of others. If the government feels that there were irregularities, it must call for a high-level inquiry.

By keeping the facts in the public sphere, it must take punitive action against those who are responsible for any irregularities in the scheme. The party will cooperate in the process of inquiry, but the government should not skip the issue.

“Be it Uttam Kumar or Harish Rao or Jana Reddy or any other leader should be brought to justice,” said Jana Reddy. He alleged that the government has mishandled the issue of Municipal employees and resorted to undemocratic practice by arresting them during peaceful demonstrations.

The Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao should intervene and call to an end by inviting them for discussions. He must hold discussions with them, even if it means a meeting outside the camp office. This will surely help in resolving the problem.

CM ignoring farmers’ woes, flays Congress Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) official spokesperson Mallu Ravi alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was burning midnight oil planning how to flood the State with cheap liquor while the distressed farmers were cursing their fate due to severe drought situation prevailing in the State.

In a press note here on Saturday, Mallu Ravi alleged that over 1,100 farmers committed suicide in the State due to severe drought spell ever since Chandrashekar Rao took over as the Chief Minister. He also stated the current season was more hopeless than the previous season as 90 percent of standing crops withered.

According to reports, every day, four to five farmers were committing suicides in Telangana due to the truant rainfall, he said and asked the State government to respond immediately and extend assistance to the distressed farmers.
