Julurupadu (Khammam): A farmer couple from Julurupadu mandal in Khammam district on Sunday claimed that the hearing and speech impaired girl, Geeta, who accidentally crossed over to Pakistan in 2003, is their daughter.

Jajjara Krishnaiah and Gopamma, residents of Padamata Narsapuram village under Julurupadu mandal, said that the deaf and mute girl Geeta, who is being looked after by a social welfare group in Karachi, is their daughter. The couple said that their daughter’s name is Rani.

Geetha went missing on January 27, 2006 when their family went to Guntur to attend the Jesus Christ Suvarta meetings. The couple said they had recognised the girl when the news channels showed the girl’s photograph a few days ago.

They said that Rani, who is born deaf, is their last one among their four daughters. They said that Rani was about 10-year-old when she went missing. They also expressed confidence that the girl would indeed recognise them. Krishnaiah, who is a farmworker, appealed to the government to reunite them with their daughter.

Meanwhile, following the reports of at least four families from Punjab, Bihar, UP and Jharkhand claiming Geeta as their daughter in the last four days, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted on Saturday requesting the respective Chief Ministers to verify the claims.
